In Memoriam: Arnold Taylor

January 7, 1943 – March 4, 2026

We honour the life and work of Arnold Taylor, Prairie organic farm leader who died in 2026 after a long life of dedication to his family, farm, and community.

Arnold was an organic grain farmer from Kenaston, Saskatchewan who contributed a stout heart and countless hours to championing “the right to farm GMO-free and the right to eat GMO-free.”

He led the Organic Agriculture Protection Fund from its very beginning in 2001 when it was set up to lead the Saskatchewan organic farmers’ class action lawsuit against the introduction of genetically engineered wheat into Canada and to make Bayer and Monsanto liable for losses due to GMO contamination of organic canola.

Over the years, he traveled on behalf of farm groups to Australia, England, and New York City, as well as to Parliament Hill and across Canada, to spread the message and inspiring others with his energy and conviction. Read Arnold’s testimony to the Canadian agriculture committee in 2011.

Arnold’s dedication to organic agriculture and community was also demonstrated with his involvement in many organic organizations, groups and clubs including as National President of Canadian Organic Growers and President of Saskatchewan Organic Directorate.

Arnold’s farm was first certified organic in 1992 and would say, “Organics put the fun back into farming. It is still fun!”

We honour his remarkable contributions to organic farming in Canada.
